What is Camera Remote SDK

Camera Remote SDK allows users to control Sony cameras remotely from a computer, from changing the camera settings, to shutter release, to live view monitoring. With this SDK, software developers can design bespoke applications tailored to business requirements, integrating professional Sony equipment for size-critical drone and speed camera systems, as well as other medical, education, army, government, and e-commerce functions.
Camera Remote SDK is completely free of charge. It is available for professional and personal use.

The α7C is the world’s smallest and lightest full-frame body with uncompromising performance, featuring advanced autofocus, high-resolution 4K videoii capabilities, and more. When paired with the world’s smallest and lightestiii FE 28-60mm F4-5.6 standard zoom lens, this versatile combination delivers an experience unlike any other, maximising portability and versatility without sacrificing any of the power of full-frame imaging.

The new α7C features:

Sony Electronics announces expanded capability of camera remote SDK for third party developers

The latest version 1.01 empowers commercial clients with the addition of a Linux®i operating system and new remote camera control functions.

Sony has released the latest SDK based on extensive interest in its camera line-up from commercial customers and has been further expanding the solution since its launch.

The new SDK Version 1.02 allows for improved functionality with professional drone applications thanks to the addition of Linuxi compatibility. Additionally, the new software will increase remote control capabilities over camera settings. New functions, which are appealing to the workflow for a wide variety of professional and commercial industries, including security, entertainment and many others, include:

  • Ability to set Focus Magnifier Setting
  • Utilise expanded Focus Area setting when using AF Area Positionii
  • Zoom will be adjustable through Zoom Type Status, Zoom Scale, and Zoom Bar Information functions
  • Operate detailed White Balance (WB) settings, including: Custom WB, Auto WB (AWB) Lock, Biaxial Fine Tuning and Picture Effect
  • Control Media Format, Flash, and interval shooting
  • Adjustable frame rate or file format for video shooting

Update: SDK Version 1.02.00 added 32bit (ARMv7) Linux® compatibility to the existing functionalities of version 1.01.

Wingtra - “Without the Sony RX1R II 42MP full-frame camera, Wingtra One couldn't achieve the results it does.”

Combining the strengths of both multirotors and fixed-wings, the WingtraOne vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) mapping drone is leading fast and accurate surveying over large areas, serving a customer base of end users and service providers working in surveying, mining, construction, infrastructure, and agriculture. To bring their ground-breaking advances in safety, efficiency and image quality to the market, they employed the Sony RX1R II. This camera collects high-resolution nadir images that can be processed into orthomosaic maps, 3D models, and other digital twins, the superior quality enabling the ground sampling distance of the map to go down to 0.7 cm (0.3 in). In combination with post-processing kinematics technology, this results in survey-grade accuracy down to 1 cm (0.4 in), previously only possible with terrestrial mapping devices.
