Auterion and Sony integration drives innovation and opens possibilities for commercial drone industry. Plug-and-play integration without requiring a single line of code
It paves the way for new solutions to be built and gives customers and end users greater choice and flexibility to choose the optimum combination of camera and drone for a particular use case, without any constraints.
The weight of Sony’s cameras makes them suitable for many commercial drone enterprise applications requiring the highest-quality image results.
The combination of Sony’s cutting-edge technology and innovative SDK software solutions, backed up by development and support, delivers a diverse range of high-quality cameras for every commercial drone application including surveying, mapping, and inspection. Key Sony camera models include:
- Alpha 7R IV – With incomparable image resolution and processing power, it features a 61MP full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor and BIONZ X™ imaging engine.
- Alpha 7S III – The ultra-high sensitivity (expanded ISO up to 409600), 15-stop wide dynamic range, a powerful security camera and infrastructure monitoring tool, for day and night shooting.
- Alpha 7C – The world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable-lens camera.
- RX0 II – Super-compact with a 1” sensor, a 200kgf/440lbf/2000N crushproof and 2.0m shockproof body.
Auterion’s onboard hardware module, Skynode, enables the integration of Sony cameras via the Sony Camera Remote SDK in a plug-and-play manner. Skynode automates the geotagging of images taken by the Sony camera, connecting them to the cloud for viewing and downloading on customers’ systems.
Sony Camera Remote SDK allows users to control Sony cameras remotely, from changing the camera settings, to remote shutter release, and live view monitoring.

Wingtra launches WingtraOne GEN II—a next-generation VTOL drone with an oblique payload (Sony Alpha 6100) and advanced reliability algorithms.
Known for its vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), precision and dependable data capture over large areas, WingtraOne has been chosen by professionals worldwide across industries. The GEN II represents a solid step forward in industrialization and reliability along with some new perks that challenge the previous limits of commercial mapping drones.

WingtraOne's GEN II oblique mapping solution is backed by a signed partnership agreement with Bentley Systems. To demonstrate the power of GEN II carrying its Oblique Sony A6100, the Wingtra team mapped the city of Zurich, Switzerland, in just six flight hours, producing an impressive 3D model, processed with Bentley ContextCapture. Bentley's software is one of two recommended software, together with ESRI's Site Scan for processing Wingtra oblique datasets.
“Bentley Systems is delighted to partner with Wingtra to transform high-resolution oblique imagery from the WingtraOne drones into 3D reality meshes—an ideal starting point for infrastructure digital twins,” said Phil Christensen, VP, Industry Solutions—iTwin Context, Bentley Systems. “This enables our common users to perform analytics on the resulting models as well as leverage Bentley’s iTwin platform to share performant, city-scale digital twins.”
WingtraOne GEN II further features PPK integrated on every drone, including multispectral Altum and RedEdge payloads, as well as advanced fail-safe and self-diagnosis algorithms and services for dependable operations.
"We have studied over a 100'000 flights and any incoming customer reports to understand what the limits might be so we can push them further,” said Julian Surber, Product Manager at Wingtra. “As a result, we’ve designed many reliability tools for GEN II to guarantee uninterrupted operations.”
Wingtra's engineering team has completely redesigned the electronics of the GEN II. From the more powerful onboard computer and optimised PCB designs to a new navigation and heading unit developed in-house, GEN II components are meant to provide industry-leading reliability to customers.
Beyond the reliability ensured by hardware updates, the GEN II runs through health-monitoring algorithms for motors, servos, batteries, camera, PPK and onboard sensors. These “drone health self-checks” minimize the potential of flight with unsafe equipment.
Precision agriculture applications will get a boost from GEN II, since Wingtra’s top-of-the-line multispectral payloads, namely Micasense Altum and RedEdge will now be paired with high-accuracy PPK. Specifically, PPK improves the quality of multispectral insights for use cases such as irrigation management and prescription maps for pesticides.
“So, when you’re aiming for the highest detail orthophotos, point clouds and digital surface models across the majority of your applications, you only need one drone. And that drone is WingtraOne Gen II,” said Boosfeld.

Sony Expands Functionality of Camera Remote SDK and Increases Range of Compatible Models
- Latest version of SDK extends USB and Wired Ethernet connectivity options, increasing the number of cameras that can be connected and remotely controlled
- x86 Linux compatibility
Sony has launched an update (Version 1.04) to its Camera Remote Software Development Kit (SDK) which extends the list of supported cameras to include the Alpha 1 and RX0 II. The addition of these models opens many new opportunities for companies to utilise the industry leading technology in Sony’s cameras to develop bespoke camera applications to improve their own workflow.
Alpha 1 is particularly suited to content creation and the inspection industry due to its unprecedented combination of resolution and speed with Ethernet control. RX0 II is ideal for 3D scanning and Photobooth usage, due to its ultra-compact body and high image quality made possible by its 1.0-type image sensor.
The latest update now means that up to 20 camera devices can be connected via USB, with the additional benefits of Ethernet connectivity which enables users to operate system over much greater distances.
Camera Remote SDK allows users to control Sony’s cameras remotely from a computer, from changing the camera settings, to remote shutter release and live view monitoring. With this SDK, software developers can design bespoke applications tailored to business requirements, integrating Sony’s professional equipment for size-critical drone and speed camera systems as well as other medical, education, government, and e-commerce functions.

“The ability to connect multiple cameras in the same session per machine, will greatly expand our photogrammetry capture rig capabilities,” said Craig Mason, Director, Stasis Media. “The support for the RX0 II gives us capacity to perform full-body scans at high quality, in tandem with face capture, all as part of the same workflow. This is a great addition to the Sony toolset and will allow us to make use of Sony’s high quality imaging sensors for rapid, high quality photogrammetry scanning.”
In addition to the existing support for Windows® 8.1/10, ARM Linux® and macOS®, Version 1.04 of the SDK introduces support for x86 Linux, making integration easy for industry customers traditionally using x86 computers.

The most technologically advanced, innovative camera that Sony has ever released, the Alpha 1 combines high-resolution and high-speed performance at a level that has never been accomplished in the world of digital cameras. With a brand new 50.1-megapixel full-frame stacked Exmor RS™ image sensor, up to 120 AF/AE calculations per second, 8K 30p 10-bit 4:2:0 video and much more, the Alpha 1 will allow creators to capture what they’ve never been able to before.

The newly developed image sensor is built with integral memory and paired with an upgraded BIONZ XR imaging processing engine, making it capable of shooting 50.1-megapixel images continuously at an astounding 30fps with up to 120 AF/AE calculations per second. The Alpha 1’s shooting capabilities are further enhanced by a 9.44 million dot OLED Quad-XGA electronic viewfinder, with a refresh rate of up to 240 fps, ensuring no black out.
Additionally, for the first time in an Alpha series camera, 8K 30p 10-bit 4:2:0 video is available. The Alpha 1 is also capable of 4K 120p / 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 recording and includes S-Cinetone colour. The Alpha 1 is also packed with features that support field professionals with faster workflow, including 3.5 times faster wireless FTP transfer speed and more. The compatible Camera Remote SDK will be available in the future.
