Earth’s Magnificence Inspires Us
Sony could not deliver such amazing experiences without inspiration from the world around us.
Road to Zero
The Road to Zero initiative is Sony's long-term environmental plan aiming to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050. Launched in 2010, the initiative focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving resources, controlling chemical substances, and promoting biodiversity throughout the product lifecycle. It sets mid-term targets, updated every five years, to guide progress in energy efficiency, renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, and sustainable product design, reflecting Sony's commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible corporate practices.

Our Sites
Sony has five sites in Europe (and across the Sony Group globally) that are classified as GEMS (Global Environmental Management System).
These GEMS sites are ISO 14001 certified; a standard which provides businesses with an internationally recognised framework for setting up an environmental management system. This supports each site to continuously improve its environmental performance.
Sony UK Technology Centre, based in Pencoed, Wales is one of such GEMS sites in Europe. It has been ISO 14001 certified since 2004 and ISO 50001 certified since 2016.
In 2018, Sony joined the RE100, a global initiative consisting of companies committed to expanding the use of renewable energy throughout their operations, with the end goal of only using renewable energy. Sony Group aims to achieve 100% renewable electricity use by 2030, through a combination of measures including the introduction of solar panels and purchasing renewable electricity. Sony has achieved this goal in all its GEMS sites since 2008, with two sites in Europe, Sony UK Technology Centre in Wales and Sony DADC in Austria, powering part of their operations via solar panels.
Our Products
The products we sell in Europe are increasingly incorporating recycled plastics in their construction to reduce the use of virgin plastics.
We developed SORPLAS (Sustainable Oriented Recycled Plastic) to incorporate more recycled materials and deliver high performance, to match both our product design and quality reputation. It’s made from used water bottles and waste optical discs collected from factories and markets. SORPLAS is used in a great variety of products, such as some models of BRAVIA TVs, Xperia smartphones, headphones, and cameras.
We’re also increasingly using recycled paper materials for product packaging to remove all plastics from the manufacturing process.Original Blended Material is the paper material developed by Sony with the environment in mind. Made from bamboo, sugarcane fibres, and post-consumer recycled paper, it can be formed to meet a wide variety of our product packaging needs to ensure it doesn’t rely on petroleum-derived materials.
Using Sony’s products is becoming less impactful to the environment too. For instance, with the flexible and configurable Eco Dashboard, energy saving settings of BRAVIA TVs can be used to easily customise energy saving settings for your TV usage, viewing environment, and the content you are watching, all in one place.
In recognition of these measures, as of 2024, eleven BRAVIA Professional Displays have successfully obtained EPEAT ecolabel status in 23 European countries, demonstrating Sony Europe's commitment to the environment.
Acting Responsibly
Sony works hard to be a good corporate citizen and meet its customers' expectation by following the rules, regulations and social norms of the different countries around the world. To this end, Sony established its "Sony Supply Chain Code of Conduct" and “Sony Group Policy for Responsible Supply Chain of Minerals”.
We are uncompromising in our demand that all suppliers of parts, materials and services strictly comply with laws, regulations and social standards including those relating to the environment. This commitment extends to upholding internationally recognized human rights of all people, as outlined in the “Sony Group Code of Conduct”.
Environmental conservation is also one of the central elements of Sony's management policy, and Sony also asks suppliers to take the initiative in reducing their environmental impact. When we conduct business with a supplier, the supplier is audited on its environmental management system as specified by Sony, and it must qualify under "Sony Green Partner Environmental Quality Approval Program" for its controls of chemical substances.

This voluntary team of over 130 employees from more than 25 countries across Europe raises awareness, drives engagement, and supports activities related to environmental and social responsibility.
