Educational programmes
Kids in Focus
Through the Kids in Focus programme, we aim to inspire young people through photography.
Led by our digital imaging product experts and supported by leading professional photographers, Sony runs photography workshops for schools and groups of young people across Europe who often would not be able to access the equipment or level of expertise by themselves.
During each workshop and under the guidance of our experts, the children take part in a number of practical sessions where they learn how to take great shots, utilising the advanced features of Sony’s cameras. Covering a range of genres such as portrait, action, and street-style photography, they get the opportunity to understand the different techniques required to excel in each.
The cameras we take along to the workshops are donated to the schools to enable these children and those that follow in later years to further develop their skills and ignite their passion.
Sony UK Technology Centre educational programmes
The Sony UK Technology Centre in Wales offers a range of on-site educational programmes for schools in the local area. These include manufacturing industry experience visits, the opportunity to create a film in a day using Sony’s professional cameras, a one-day coding workshop, and more. Over 31,000 children of all ages have passed through these programmes since 2012.
Volunteering
Our employees care passionately about the planet and its people, as does Sony. That’s why we give every employee across Europe three paid days off work each year to volunteer their time.
Whether it’s clearing beaches and riverbanks of plastics, handing out food to the homeless, or protecting the biodiversity in our forests, our employees give their all.
Charitable donations
The Sony Summer Challenge is our annual European fundraising initiative through which Sony employees compete in teams to run, walk, cycle or swim as many kilometres as they can throughout the months of June and July. In addition to being great for the health and wellbeing of our employees, a key aspect of the challenge is its strong charitable donation element.
Each year, over 1,400 employees from across Europe take part in the Challenge. For every kilometre they run, walk, cycle or swim, Sony makes a financial contribution to charities and humanitarian organisations of around €50,000 in total each year. Those that have benefitted from our employees’ endeavours include WWF, UNICEF and Save the Children, as well as a host of national charities across Europe.
In addition, Sony is also quick to provide its support to those affected by global and national emergencies, such as earthquakes, floods, COVID-19 and conflicts. This includes donating mobile phones, audio visual equipment and financial aid to humanitarian organisations caring for those seriously impacted by the Ukraine conflict.
